Ettel Electric Event
SAM Chapter NX 211 R/C

(Rev. 09/29/2004)

1] A current AMA Membership is required.

2] Model Type:

  • The model may have originally been a Gas or Rubber model, as the builder wishes.
  • The model must have been in existence prior to 31 December 1945.
  • The model must meet published Radio Control AMA and SAM requirements.
  • The model may be scaled from the original size.
  • There is no builder of the model requirement.
  • ARF's may be approved by the Contest Director.

3] The event formula is as follows.

  • Duration, with a specified maximum length motor run, and a maximum flight time:
  • A single, Limited Motor Run of 60 (sixty), seconds will normally be used.
  • The flight may be called an attempt within the first 30 seconds of the motor run.
  • Two attempts will be allowed during the event; and will be recorded by the timer.
  • The Duration time target is 10:00 (ten) minutes for each official flight.
  • Three (3) official flights may be flown. The best 2 Flights will be added together for the contestant’s score.
  • ROG; Landing requirements; field rules and flying area boundaries will be determined, and announced at the pilot meeting before the contest. Fly off will be at the discretion of the CD, and posted at the scorekeeper’s table.

4] Motors:

  • For this event, only motors that meet the label description:" Speed 280, Speed 300, Speed 330 or Speed 400”, as described in the current Hobby Lobby Catalog, may be used in the competition.

5] Gear reduction and/or folding propellers are authorized.

6] A speed controller or on/off switch, operated by the radio, is required. This unit is a safety requirement, and functionality must be demonstrated for the officials before each flight.

7] The power source is a battery, made up of 8 or less, nickel cadmium cells. The battery must be removable from the aircraft.

The versatile aircraft described, in these rules, is an approximate equivalent in size and power loading with the very popular event known as SAM ½ A Texaco Gas.

There are many models that meet these minimal requirements. I think we can make R/C and e-flying relatively inexpensive with this fun event.
